18 repossessions took place through the Sheriff’s Office in Kerry last year.
At the monthly meeting of Kerry County Council Cllr Jim Finucane called on the Finance Minister to impose a moratorium on all potential evictions from family homes to allow for new rules.
According to figures obtained by Cllr Finucane 104 civil bills were lodged in the Circuit Court in Kerry which begins repossession proceedings.
Of these 86 were home owners, 14 were vacant properties, three were buy to let and there was one other.
The Fine Gael Cllr is seeking a meeting with the new Governor of the Central Bank on how evictions are dealt with and what role local authorities could play in resolving matters.
Cllr Finucane says financial institutions need to take full responsibility for advice or selling techniques for distressed properties.
He also says how clients experiencing difficulties are treated and contacts by institutions needs to be addressed and an arbitration process for a fair solution worked out.
