There was a 33 per cent drop in the number of gardaí serving in Cahersiveen over a five year period.
The statistic is contained in figures released by the Department of Justice for numbers serving in the Kerry Garda Division between the end of 2010 and November 30th last year.
Overall for the division, there was a 10 per cent drop in the numbers of serving gardaí during this period.
Castleisland bucked the general trend with an increase in gardaí of 158 per cent.
However, this was due to the Traffic Corps and Technical Bureau of the division being moved into the Castleisland station. The number of on-patrol Gardai in Castleisland was not increased.
On December 31st, 2010, there were 334 serving gardaí in the Kerry Garda Division – on November 30th last year, this number stood at 300.
Cahersiveen saw its garda numbers drop by one third, it had 24 officers in 2010 and by the end of last year, this was down to 16.
Serving gardaí in Killarney went from 70 in 2010 down to 57 at the end of last November – a fall of almost 19%.
Over this time, the numbers serving in Tralee fell by 16 per cent from 118 down to 99.
In Castleisland, however garda numbers increased from 12 at the end of December 2010 up to 31 by the end of last November – a jump of 158 per cent.
