Negotiations are continuing between Kerry County Council and CIE in a bid to progress the Tralee-Fenit walkway. The issue in dispute between the parties is the provision of ducting for existing fibre optic cables. Although there is no fibre optic cable from Tralee to Fenit CIE want all lands of the North Kerry line including from Listowel to the Great Southern Trial in Limerick to be transferred as one and will not transfer the Tralee-Fenit section separately from the other. CIE want the schemes to progress together. A final decision on the ducting is expected before the end of March and once this is resolved the local authority will proceed with the first registration process. Then it will seek a determination from An Bord Pleanala in relation to whether an EIS for the project is required. Following this the planning process can progress – Kerry County Council say the earliest this would begin is next December.
