Monofilaments nets will not be introduced before anglers get a chance to voice their concerns at a meeting with the Minister for State John Brown according to Deputy Noel O Flynn. A proposal to introduce the nets was passed at a meeting of the South West Regional Fisheries board last week despite the opposition of anglers in Kerry.Four members of the board have now tendered their resignations in opposition to the use of the nets. Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Marine and Natural Resources Deputy Noel O’ Flynn says that anglers have a convincing argument. He says that if necessary he will bring both sides before the committee to resolve the issue. He has also indicated that there will be a shake up of all boards giving greater representation to the angling sector.
