The Minister for the Environment has written to members of Tralee Town Council advising them that he will abolish the local authority if they fail to adopt a budget next Monday night. The Minister granted an extension of one week to allow further negotiations however he made it clear that he takes a serious view of their failure to agree on services and charges. Last week a vote on the matter was defeated by ten votes to one.Behind the scenes negotiations are now taking place in an attempt to reach agreement on the future of the bin collection service. Meanwhile County Manager Martin Nolan has ruled out any possibility of the County Council intervening. Mr Nolan says Tralee Town Council is a seperate business and it would not be appropriate for the County Council to intervene financially. The Manager added that he’s confident Tralee Cllrs will agree a budget when they meet next Monday night.
