Minister says Kerry home help hours have increased

Kathleen Lynch The number of home help hours allocated in Kerry has increased in the past three years. That’s according to the Minister of State at the Department of Health, Kathleen Lynch. She says since 2013, the number of hours to the sick and elderly has increased by 37 thousand. It emerged this week an elderly man in the county had 45 minute home help a week, despite living alone and recovering from cancer. Minister Lynch says it wouldn’t be appropriate to comment on individual situations but says she was aware various care packages had been offered to the man. The Labour TD says she wants to simplify the system whereby people can access the services they need. Minister Lynch says this process has begun but more reform is needed, which costs money.
