Minister answers questions on Blenerville National School

The Department of Education has refused to identity possible sites for Blennerville National School. According to Minister Mary Hannifin this is due to the commercial sensitivities of site acquisitions. The Minister was responding to a Dail question from Deputy Martin Ferris recently which asked when her Department intends to purchase a site or a new school. Blennerville National School was told four years ago they would get a new building to cater for its growth in population as well as providing a secure environment for the pupils and teachers. The school has been left out of The School Building Programme for two years running, this year and in 2004. Minister Mary Hannifin says her Department is continuing to explore the possibility of acquiring a site for a new school. However she also says that it is not proposed at this stage to identify a specific site for a new school.
