A meeting about concerns over the absence of a full-time GP in Rathmore is taking place this evening. The east Kerry town and its hinterland has been without a full time general practitioner for more than a year following the retirement of the local doctor. A meeting to discuss the matter is taking place in Teach Iosagáin, Rathmore at 8pm. Cllr Niall Kelleher says it’s a serious matter for the area and affects not just people in Rathmore but communities in Gneeveguilla and Knocknagree. Fianna Fail general election candidate John Brassil says his party would increase GPs’ rural practice allowance to €25,000. He says this and other measures proposed by his party would make it more commercially viable for GPs to set up in rural Ireland.
