Up to 100 jobs are under threat in Ballybunion as management at the Golf Hotel, Ballybunion confirmed its intention to close for good. Ballybunion Castle A notice, posted on social media, indicated the hotel would not re-open this Easter as planned and that a sale of its contents would be held on Easter Saturday. The hotel – a popular North Kerry summer destination location, particularly during Listowel Races – would have celebrated 50 years in business in 2016. Proprietor Micheál Carr has alleged that ‘bad publicity’ – surrounding the possible re-location of refugees to Ballybunion – saw a drop in bookings for the coming season.
