Management and unions representing Luas workers locked in talks

Anticipation builds...Testing begins on new LUAS line at Spencer Dock Bridge. The Luas Red Line, which is set to open in December, will carry passengers over the Spencer Dock Bridge across the Royal Canal and along Mayor Street to the Point Depot. It is estimated that up to 25,000 people will work in the proximity of Spencer Dock, with a further 6,000 living there by its completion in 2014.Photo Shane O Neill / FennellsManagement and unions representing Luas workers are locked in talks at the Workplace Relations Commission this evening. They’ve been continuing since first thing this morning – however drivers who make up 170 of the company’s 250 staff remain outside the process. A source close to Transdev – the company that runs Luas – says they remain optimistic a resolution can be reached today. The firm has already announced its buying in bus services in a bid to deal with strike for St Patrick’s Day. Several days of action are planned for later this month and April.
