An Algerian asylum seeker who stole a bottle of aftershave from Debenham’s already has six previous convictions. Thirty-four-year-old Adam Ali with an address at Atlas House, McCowen’s Lane, Tralee, pleaded guilty to stealing a bottle of Lacoste, costing €71 at Debenham’s, Manor West on August 21st last. The property was recovered in the car park by a security guard, who followed him out of the shop. Tralee District Court heard he has six previous convictions, including one for attempted rape and one for sexual assault in the UK. His solicitor Pat Mann said he was seeking asylum because of a ‘difference of opinion’ with the regime in Algeria. Judge James O’Connor put the matter back to the next sitting of Cloverhill court.
