A judge has told a man battling major drug and alcohol addictions that he has serious issues but also has the solutions. The comments came as Judge Tom O’Donnell passed sentence on 28 year old Jason McDonnell of 10B Walnut Grove, Ardfert. Jason McDonnell who was previously named as “one of the main targets” for Gardai in Kerry investigating drug dealing pleaded guilty to possession of over €1,800 worth of cannabis with the intention of selling or supplying the drug on May 5th 2014 at Commons East, Ardfert. Mr McDonnell also admitted to possession of cocaine on the same day. The accused was caught red handed by Gardai working off intelligence who carried out a stake out operation in an Ardfert field. A tick list with names and phone numbers were also found in the home of the unemployed father of one. Judge Tom O’Donnell noted the accused was trying to straighten himself out and the Probation Service are willing to supervise him post release.He handed down an 18 month sentence backdating it to April 24th when the accused went into custody.
