Man held in connection with death of Paud O’Leary is released without charge

A man arrested in connection with an investigation into a fatal hit-and-run in Kerry in 2012 has been released without charge. Gardaí The man who is in his 70s was arrested yesterday morning and taken to Bandon Garda Station for questioning. The man was arrested in connection with a Garda investigation into a fatal hit and run at Scrahanfadda, Gneeveguilla. 42 year-old Paud O’Leary was out cycling on the morning of July 1st, 2012 when he was hit by a vehicle that failed to stop at Scrahanfadda. Earlier this year 23 year old Shane Fitzgerald of  Upper Knockeen, Knockduff, Meelin, Newmarket, Co. Cork  was found guilty of dangerous driving causing the death of the father of four. He was sentenced to six and a half years with the final 18 months suspended and was disqualified from driving for 10 years. Yesterday morning Gardai arrested a man in his 70s in connection with their ongoing investigation. Last night he was released without charge from Bandon Garda Station. A Garda spokesperson says a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions on the matter.
