Man charged with 40 counts of rape and sexual assault at Tralee District Court

A man has appeared at Tralee District Court charged with 40 counts of rape and sexual abuse. Tralee courthouse Garda Marcus Twomey told the court that the charges occurred on dates between 1995 and 2014 and there are three alleged injured parties. The alleged victims are now aged 10, 13 and 30. Judge James O’Connor ordered that the accused; who was represented by Solicitor Padraig O’Connell; not be identified in order to protect the identity of the alleged victims. Just after the 40 charges were listed to the court, there was an outburst from a young man sitting in the public gallery who said to the accused, “enough charges there for you, rot in hell you scumbag”. The man was removed from the court. The accused was remanded in custody to appear again next Wednesday, November 18th.
