Man, believed to have lived in Kerry , appears in Mayo court on child exploitation charges

A 70-year old man, who’s understood to have lived in Kerry, has appeared in court in Mayo, on charges of child trafficking and pornography. Gavel 4 Radio Kerry understands that the accused, a British national, lived in a number of counties, including Kerry, since his arrival in Ireland in 2002. The 70-year old  appeared before Castlebar District Court this afternoon, following his arrest in Claremorris, County Mayo two days ago. He is charged with taking, restraining or restricting the personal liberty of a child for the purposes of sexual exploitation under the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act, 1998. Judge Mary Devins denied the man bail. Gardaí had expressed concerns that he posed a flight risk. The accused has been remanded in custody to Castlerea Prison  to appear at Harristown Court this Friday.
