A man accused in connection with a spate of thefts in south Kerry has been warned by a judge that he is “in the jail door”. Killarney District Court Judge James O’Connor made the comments as 22 year old John Banks O’Brien of Castlequinn, Caherciveen appeared before Killarney District Court. Judge O’Connor told Mr O’Brien’s solicitor Nuala Liston that the court had bent over backwards to help her client who is not helping himself. He added that Mr O’Brien had not one penny farthing to pay compensation to his alleged victims. The court heard Mr O’Brien who is facing one count of burglary, seven counts of theft and one count of handling stolen property on various dates had allegedly breached five of his seven bail conditions. Judge James O’Connor remanded the accused in custody to reappear before Killarney District Court today. The judge added he was reserving the right to decide jurisdiction in the case.
