Listowel Writers’ Week confirms it won’t be applying for Israeli Embassy funding for writer attendance

Concerns over the acceptance of funds for the expenses of an Israeli writer at Listowel Writers’ Week has prompted the festival to confirm it won’t be applying for Israeli Embassy funding for the attendance of the writer. Savyon Liebrecht’s literary insights into life in Israel has earned her international acclaim however concerns were raised on social media by members of organisations supporting Palestine about the potential funding of her trip to Listowel by the Israeli Embassy. Liebrecht Máire Logue of Listowel Writers’ Week said the festival has taken the decision not to apply for funding from the Embassy: [audio_player src=””] Ms Logue was however critical of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign who issued a statement on the matter – saying the festival should have been made aware of the statement before it was released.
