The Seanchai Centre in Listowel has cleared 90% of its debt. The literary centre had been in the red to a tune of 65,000 euro debt since it opened in 2000. The centre was opened five years ago at a cost of 1.65 million euro. Since then it had been trading at a loss of 5,000 euro a year. A major fundraising drive was undertaken by the company last year in an effort to clear the debt.5,000 tribute books to John B Keane were published last year and a tour of the US, England and Ireland was taken to promote the book. According to the Manager of the centre Cara Trant just 200 of the books remain. The centre will join up with the newly renovated castle in listowel this summer in a bid to entice more visitors to the North Kerry town.
