A Listowel councillor has called on Kerry County Council to employ more operational staff to deal with – what he described as – “the treacherous condition” – of North Kerry’s roads Cllr Liam Purtill told members of Listowel Municipal District’s monthly meeting that 90% of the calls he receives are in relation to road issues. He said “people are irate” due to the perceived “slow response” in terms of repairs. In reply, council management said the repair of potholes, within Listowel’s primary route network, took place within two working days – and other roads in the urban environment within one week. In other areas regional and local primary network roads were repaired within four weeks. However, due to a lack of resources no specific targets could be fulfilled for the local secondary or tertiary network.
