Large scale, unattended gorse fires described by South Kerry farmer as a “new phenomenon”

That’s according to a South Kerry farmer who claims such fires caused an estimated €1,000 damage to his property recently. It is illegal to burn hillside gorse between March 1st and August 31st – farmer Pat O’Leary, from the Finian’s Bay area, says the prospect of these gorse fires being set is a “constant worry”.
