29 year old Killorglin man Billy Burke has died. He passed away this morning in the Mater Hospital. The cystic fibrosis patient had been on a waiting list for a lung transplant for over 4 years. Back in April thousands of people from all over Ireland gathered in Killorglin to campaign for a lung transplant for Billy Burke. Over 40 thousand signatures were collected in an attempt to put pressure on a Newcastle Hospital to release an Irish organ for the 29 year old cystic fibrosis suffererHowever nothing came of the efforts and Billy continued his wait for a transplant It’s been known for some time that his health was deteriorating quickly and it’s understood that last week he was rushed to the Mater Hospital in Dublin. This morning after a long fight Billy Burke passed away in hospital surrounded by family and friends.
