Killarney’s sports complex and swimming pool is to go ahead as planned. The decision was taken at the Killarney Town Council meeting last night. Despite reservations, agreement was reached that the vote of the previous Town Council should be upheld. Niall ‘Botty’ O Callaghan , expressed concerns over the need for a new swimming pool stating there are already 14 pools in the town. He wanted a guarantee that in 10 years locals wouldn’t be paying higher rates in order to keep the complex open.Sean O Grady, said over a million euro had already been invested in the project, and a change to the plan now would mean that money would be lost. He said the people of Killarney deserved a facility they could be proud of, and the sports complex should go ahead as proposed. Brian O Leary said Minister O Donohue is not going to provide funding for a project the council will not back. Either the project went ahead as proposed or the whole plan would be abandoned. It was decided the vote made by the previous Town Council to build a sports complex with a swimming pool would proceed as planned.
