Killarney man apologised to garda he assaulted

A Killarney man who assaulted a garda hadn’t realised he was only trying to help, a court heard. Killarney District Court Colin Buckley from Ballinamagh, Kilcummin has since apologised profusely to Garda Brendan O’Donovan. He pleaded guilty at Killarney District Court to the assault at Fairhill, Killarney on October 27th last. His solicitor, Padraig O’Connell told the court Mr Buckley had consumed a lot of alcohol and fell, suffering a gash to the head. When Garda O’Dovovan came to his aid, he didn’t realise he was trying to help him and lashed out. The Garda was shaken but unhurt. Judge James O’Connor ordered him to pay  €750 to the Garda Benevolent Fund and the same amount to the court poor box.
