Members of Killarney Golf and Fishing club have agreed that any increase in subscriptions for ordinary members will from now on apply to senior members also. However over 66’s will retain their membership discount. The agreement was reached at a recent special meeting of the club to address its falling membership. The once Fáilte Ireland owned Killarney Golf and Fishing Club had 1700 members at its peak. Members aged over 66 were asked to consider forgoing their 50% discount to shore up younger members. The average age of golf club membership in Ireland and the UK is 62. Chairman of the management committee Gerard Walsh says the club is experiencing a problem with a drop off in young members, however it has had two successful years in terms of green fees. Members of the club will meet for its AGM on Sunday November 15th.
