Killarney father ‘doing his best’ to raise compensation

A father of one is doing his best to raise compensation for a man he assaulted, a court has heard. 20-year-old Wayne Sparling of 6 Arbutus Drive, Killarney had been ordered to pay €10,000 to a man he assaulted, breaking his jaw. Judge James O’Connor adjourned the matter until November to allow him time to raise the money. Killarney District Court heard Wayne Sparling’s victim had also required 30 stitches, following the assault which took place at Plunkett Street in the town on August 17th last. Killarney District Court Mr Sparling, a married father of one, had previously pleaded guilty to the offence. He struck his victim with one punch, which the court heard, had had devastating affects. His solicitor, Paul O’Donoghue, told the court he was doing his best to raise the money and handed in €1,200 to the court. To date, €2,200 in compensation has been paid but €7,800 is still outstanding. Judge James O’Connor adjourned the matter until November 17, remanding the defendant on continuing bail, to allow him pay the balance of the compensation.
