Kerry’s slipways to be examined by council following Donegal tragedy

An examination of all slipways in Kerry is being carried out in the wake of the Donegal drowning tragedy. Yesterday, the five family members were laid to rest in Derry following funeral mass. Kerry County Council says following the tragic incident in Buncrana its staff have begun an examination of all slipways in the county which are under its control. Area staff are being instructed to assess the risks at all such slipways which are their charge and to take appropriate action if necessary. Such assessments would normally be carried out at this time of the year anyway when tides are low and to deal with any safety risks which might arise. The incident in Buncrana is a stark reminder of the risks of being close to water and Kerry County Council urges anyone in such situations to exercise appropriate caution.
