Kerry’s female drivers warned after rise in carjacking incidents

Kerry’s female drivers are being warned to formulate a safety plan if they’re driving alone by night, or on isolated country roads. garda badge The warning comes, after two women were robbed and assaulted in two separate carjacking incidents in Cork and Waterford in recent weeks. In both cases, the women were lured out of their cars either by a staged incident on the road, or by an item being thrown at their vehicles. Garda Victim Service Officer with the Kerry Garda Division, Fidelma O’Leary, says criminals often prey on the vulnerability of women driving on their own, especially at night. She says that regardless of what emergency appears to be happening on the roadway, female drivers should be very slow to get out of their cars. While there have been no similar carjacking incidents in Kerry, Garda O’Leary says women drivers in the county need to formulate a plan, in case this happens to them: [audio_player src=””]
