Tralee mountaineer Mike Barry has become the first Irishman to reach the South Pole. Mike Barry reached his destination yesterday after traveling 600 miles over 50 days on treacherous grounds. Weather condition was tough with high winds and low temperatures and the group has been traveling at under 10 miles daily for the last few weeks. Mike Barry`s wife mags says that he is very relieved and a little shell shocked that he has finally made it. He is to fly out from the South Pole to Patriot Hill base today and from there he will be transported to Chile.
