Kerry TD criticises lack of proper funding for school leavers with autism

Kerry TD Michael Healy-Rae has said criticised the fact that funding for school leavers with autism is at less than 50% of recommended amount. Kerry TD Michael Healy Rae The Independent deputy claimed that parents of autistic children have been left stunned by the HSE announcement that funding for school leavers would be roughly half of the recommended figures outlined by experts and charities. Autism organisation, Gheel, outlined in a study this year that between €10m and €12m would need to be available in order to provide a safe and thorough service. However in a report last week, the HSE announced that just €6 million would be allocated to autistic resources.
