A Kerry TD is calling on motor insurance companies and the regulator to appear before Oireachtas Transport Committee to explain their positions regarding insuring older vehicles. Fine Gael TD and member of the Oireachtas Transport Committee, Brendan Griffin, has written to the Committee Clerk and Chairman John O’Mahony to request their appearance Deputy Griffin says if an older car has a valid NCT certificate, insurance companies should accept this. He also said that refusal to insure vehicles 15 years or older – regardless of their road-worthiness – is causing difficulty for those unable to purchase a newer vehicle or who chose to keep their old one.
