Kerry TD calls for review of ‘punishing’ farm levies

Kerry TD Tom Fleming

Irish farmers paid over €12 million euro in levies last year, prompting one Kerry TD to call for a review.

Independent deputy Tom Fleming said €6.6 million was collected from bovine disease levies last year, including €3.1 million at meat plants and abattoirs and for live exports.

A further €5.7 million was generated from the levy per head on slaughtered or exported stock.

Deputy Fleming says these are ‘punishingly high’ yet nothing was done in the recent Budget to address the issue.
