Kerry support group for rape victims says abortion legislation is not fit for purpose

The manager of the Kerry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre says current abortion legislation is not fit for purpose. Kerry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre Vera O’Leary says she believes a new referendum is needed to deal with situations where girls and women become pregnant as a result of rape. A teenager who was a victim of rape was refused an abortion under the country’s new laws. She had her baby by  caesarean section at 25 weeks after being refused a termination by an expert panel. Vera O’Leary says women who become pregnant as a result of rape should be allowed to have an abortion here. [audio_player src=”http://media.radiokerry.ie/mediamanager/embed/audio/27059/medium/”]
