Kerry senator proposes bill aimed at levelling playing field between town centre retailers and out of town shopping parks

Fine Gael Senator Paul Coghlan is behind a Seanad private members bill that would see a rate applied to shop owners who offer free parking spaces in retail parks. Senator Paul Coghlan, Fine Gael, Seanad Chief Whip This rate would be used by local authorities to reduce the price of town centre parking. Senator Coghlan believes the current situation is putting town centres under serious pressure, and if unchecked could hasten urban decay.
