Kerry postmaster calls on Government to act fast to rescue post office network

A Kerry postmaster says the Government needs to act fast to ensure the post office network will be viable into the future.

An Post has been in talks for months with the Irish Post Masters’ Union to find ways to modernise the network in order to secure its future.

Yesterday, the IPU walked out of the talks as it says there is no prospect of agreement.

The IPU says its members will not be in a position to rollout a proposed An Post Smart Account.
Local meetings with members will happen over the next two weeks.

Seamus O Luing, who is the postmaster in Ventry, says they recognise the world is changing but this account will push business online rather than into post offices:
