Kerry parents warned not to get into debt over Holy Communion parties

Credit UnionKerry parents are being advised not to get themselves into debt, to cover the cost of elaborate First Holy Communion or Confirmation parties. The warning comes after a recent survey showed that 12 percent of families are using either money lenders or credit cards to finance these events. According to Helen Courtney Power from Killarney Credit Union, some parents spend up to a thousand Euro on Holy Communion celebrations, often including the hire of bouncy castles and catering for large groups. She advised parents to budget and plan well in advance of these occasions, and resist the temptation to use credit cards. Ms Courtney Power says the emphasis should be on the child’s enjoyment of the day: [audio_player src=””]
