Kerry ICMSA Chairman speaks out on water metering

The Chairman of the Kerry branch of the ICMSA, Conor Creedon says that the organisation will be asking KCC to re-examine charges connected with the introduction of water metering to non -domestic users. Mr Creedon claims that the a charge of 4.48 per thousand gallons proposed by KCC is almost twice that being charged to farmers in cork by Cork County Council. He said that he will be seeking a meeting with the Council. However a spokesperson for KCC has said that the comparison with the Cork figures is not completely accurate, as when the network management charge levied by both counties are taken into account, the fees are broadly similar. She said that 1 in 5 farmers in the county are already operating under a metered water system, and that the average payment per year is between 300 and 400 euro. The spokesperson said that the Council does not envisage any significant rise in the average charge currently being paid by farmers.
