It will allow the Mountain Rescue Group replace a 2003 vehicle it had been using. A Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport grant of 200,000 euro had been made available as a one off capital grant to Mountain Rescue Ireland but when shared between 10 groups it would not allow for  any substantial purchase. Kerry Mountain Rescue stepped back from the national purchase scheme to allow seven other groups benefit and Kerry Group with the goodwill of other non statutory agencies have funded the purchase of and fit out of the new vehicle. The volunteer service received an operational grant of over 14,000 from the state in 2015, but 94% of this was returned to the state in VRT and VAT as unlike marine rescue equipment, mountain rescue equipment is not VAT exempt.
