Kerry County Council is to contact the Data Protection Commissioner about the practice of giving councillors a list of people who are allocated council houses. Councillors are traditionally notified when council houses are allocated to people on the waiting list. Kerry County Council management are now reviewing the practice, after it was brought to their attention that Sligo County Council no longer notifies members of allocations because of data protection issues. At the recent monthly meeting, councillors raised concerns about the practice not continuing, however management say they’ll be contacting the Data Protection Commissioner to clarify their position.
