Kerry County Council receive over 70 complaints regardin quarries.

Since 2000 Kerry County Council has received over 70 complaints regarding quarries and planning issues relating to them. Of this figure 20 investigations are ongoing. 10 files have been sent to the County Solicitor`s office for legal proceedings to commence.Of this 10, the alleged primary breach by the quarries is that they are operating without planning permission. Tom Sheehy, Senior Planner with Kerry County Council says the quarries claim they have a right to operate as their business started pre 1963, when planning permission was not required.Kerry County Council says the quarries have breached the intensification rule and have grown considerably since they first started trading. Tom Sheehy says procedures are underway for legal proceedings to commence.
