Kerry County Council does not have funds to light route along Ring of Kerry

Glenbeigh sign Kerry County Council says they do not have funding to extend the public lighting system along a popular section of the Ring of Kerry. Councillor Michael Cahill is calling for the council to extend the lighting system from Glenbeigh village to Falveys caravan park which he describes as a major health and safety issue. Councillor Cahill says this section of road is extremely busy and serves a caravan park and a number of housing estates. He says the short section of road is extremely dark and dangerous and is a major health and safety issue. In response Kerry County Council says they must improve greatly their energy efficiency by 33% and reduce considerably their energy usage. These targets, the council says are mandatory and one of the greatest energy consumers is public lighting. The council says there is no funding available from the National Roads Authority to extend the public lighting along the National Secondary route from Glenbeigh towards Cahersiveen, nor has Kerry County Council any available funding to do so.
