Kerry County Council says they can’t plant fruit trees around the county because they could be sued.
The authority was responding to a query from Councillor Toireasa Ferris, who asked that when planting trees within towns and villages in Kerry, that the council consider fruit bearing ones.
The Sinn Féin Councillor said she was perplexed by the response from the council, who said they were conscious of possible litigation from hazards created by fruit falling on footpaths and roads.
Councillor Ferris is welcoming however the council’s decision to compromise and to consider planting fruit bearing trees where there’s grass around them.
