Kerry councillor calls on TDs to unite against bank cuts

A Caherciveen businessman says people are paying more fees for less of a service in our banks.

Mattie Quirke of Quirke’s Hardware Caherciveen was speaking after it was announced that Bank of Ireland is changing customer services in some branches in Kerry in the coming months due to a decrease in activity.

Castleisland, Killorglin, and Abbeyfeale won’t have counters open and will only have self-service machines for lodging and withdrawing cash; while Caherciveen, Dingle, Kenmare, and Listowel will have morning-only counter services.

Mattie Quirke says there’s no consideration for anyone who doesn’t use computers, especially older people, and that they’re not getting the service they’re paying for.

Kerry County Councillor Cllr Damian Quigg says rural TDs across Ireland need to unite against these cuts by banks.

The Killorglin Sinn Féin councillor is calling on them to work together and fight the changes.
