Kerry candidates spent almost €200,000 on Election 2016

Almost €200,000  was spent by candidates in the General Election in Kerry

Figures released by the Standards in Public Office Commission show the 16 candidates for last February’s election spent €192,161.09 on expenses associated with running for Kerry’s five Dail seats.

The top spender in the Kerry General Election 2016 campaign was the Deputy who topped the poll Michael Healy-Rae who spent €26,624 euro, €9,366 of which went on election posters.

Fianna Fail’s John Brassil who also secured a seat was next with €25,554, €9,578 of which went on posters.

Fine Gael’s Brendan Griffin was reelected spending €23,383  while Danny Healy-Rae who entered the race late and won a seat spent €15,575. Deputy Healy Rea’s biggest expenditure item was advertising at €9134.

Fifth highest spender was Jimmy Deenihan who lost his seat spending €18146  while Deputy Martin Ferris of Sinn Fein who took a seat spending €15,206.

The lowest spender in the campaign was independent candidate Henry Gaynor with just €113.50 cent.

The other TD who lost his seat Arthur Spring of Labour spent €11,647.
