The peatlands conservation council is to auction a Kerry bog pony to raise funds for its new headquarters. The pony which is a rare breed unique to this area was donated by John Mulvihill. He says it will be professionally trained and hopes it will raise in the region of two and a half thousand euro. The pony has been enjoying a comeback in the last few years after almost becoming extinct in 1994. After extensive DNA testing it is now certified as an official rare breed. Bids for the pony are being accepted on the internet.
