Kerry based homeless service ‘broadly welcomes’ Government rental measures

An agency which provides support for the homeless or those at risk of homelessness in Kerry has broadly welcomed the Government’s rental reforms. Novas Initiatives Novas Initiatives operates a homeless shelter in Tralee and also provides other housing supports. Spokesperson Úna Burns says while the agency broadly welcomes the reforms; it would have liked to have seen rent supplement given to those on low income linked to inflation. She says the Government needs to take a more active role in providing social housing so as to reduce dependence on the private sector. Ms Burns also welcomes Kerry County Council’s plan to carry out a major survey of its stock of more than four thousand properties. [audio_player src=””]
