KCC says demountable units a housing option in very exceptional cases

Kerry County Council says demountable units are still an option for people on the housing list, but only in very exceptional and limited cases.

The local authority was responding to a call from Sinn Féin Cllr Toireasa Ferris, who asked why the units are still an option on housing application forms, when they’re not approved, even when they’re the most suitable solution.

The council says it hasn’t housed anyone in prefabs in the last two years, but it has replaced two existing ones; they’ve a number of demountable units in use, mainly in rural parts of the county.

Kerry County Council says their aim is to provide sustainable social housing, and while demountable units are an option, they’re only deemed appropriate in very exceptional and limited case.
