A proposal to install surveillance cameras at bottle banks is being considered in an effort to prevent littering. Kerry County Council is examining the type of camera required and the costs involved. A previous application to The Department of the Environment for funding was unsuccessful and the council is now monitoring the situation in Cork where cameras have been purchased. Littering has become a problem at some recycling centres. As part of the measures to help clean up these areas the frequency of collection is to be examined. In addition a freephone number will be clearly posted at bring banks which will allow the public to notify the council when the banks are full.
