Jerry McCabe killer stabbed estranged wife 13 times on Christmas Eve

Gavel 1A court has heard how a man stabbed his estranged wife 13 times on Christmas Eve last year. 50 year old Pearse McAuley of Canal Bank Walk in Ballyconnell in Co Cavan, pleaded guilty to production of a knife contrary to the Offensive Weapons Act. He also pleaded guilty to intentionally causing serious harm to his estranged wife Pauline Tully, to false imprisonment and to threatening to kill Ms Tully’s brother. Mr McAuley, a prominent Republican, was convicted of the 1996 killing of Detective Garda Jerry McCabe who was from Ballylongford. Sentencing has been adjourned until next Wednesday morning
