IT Tralee lecturer says the casualisation of teaching contracts is ‘demeaning’

An IT Tralee lecturer says the casualisation of teaching contracts is ‘demeaning’. Anne Marie Courtney told the TUI conference in Killarney that, in 2007, a 16-hour contract became available at the Institute of Technology, Tralee. tuiShe says the contract was split into two 9-hour contracts, and in 2014, it was sub-divided again into 17 separate contracts. This resulted in a number of staff members receiving contracts which varied in length from half-an-hour per week up to two-and-a-quarter hours per week. Anne Marie Courtney says this needs to stop.
