Ireland South MEP urges Kerry communities to enter fibre broadband competition

Ireland South MEP Deirdre Clune is encouraging rural communities in Kerry to apply for an Eircom competition that would deliver free broadband to their area. deirdre_clune_4_site-211x300 Eircom is currently running a competition to deliver high speed broadband to one town or village in rural Ireland at no cost to that community. The competition, called Empowered, will see Eircom build a high speed Fibre to the Home (FTTH) broadband network within the chosen community at no cost. Communities have until September 15th to apply for the competition and the winner will be announced at the end of September 2015. Eircom will then immediately engage with the community to set up the broadband system. According to Ireland South MEP Deirdre Clune, the Government’s National Broadband Plan is on track to bring high-quality broadband to homes, schools and businesses in rural areas by 2020.
